Mr. Kim served as the Concertmaster of the San Jose Symphony from 1991-1998. He holds a B.A. from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and an M.A. from both the University of Michigan and the Julliard School of Music, where he was Concertmaster in the Julliard Symphony. While in New York, he recorded a jazz album with Stephanie Grappelli. Among his solo credits are the premier performances of the current Broadway show The Secret Garden and the San Jose Cleveland Ballet production of Mysteries and Raptures, which features a violin concerto by Dr. L. Subramaniam.
In 1991 he was the soloist and conductor of Vivaldi's Four Seasons with the San Jose Symphony. He has performed the complete Beethoven violin sonatas for the Beethoven Center at San Jose State University. In 1995 he was invited to perform in the Concertmaster Series recital in San Francisco. He has recently performed the Mozart A Major violin concerto with the Master Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra.
Mr. Kim has served on the faculties of the National Music Camp of Interlocken under the All-State Program and Summer Music Monterey. He is currently a faculty member at Santa Clara University and since 1997 has participated as a judge for the Irving M. Klein International String Competition.
