City of San Jose -- Commendation
October 2007 ----
WHEREAS: San Jose Youth Symphony has been an integral part
of the arts landscape of our City for over half a century,
as is evidenced by having completed their 55th season; and
WHEREAS: San Jose Youth Symphony has performed in some of Europe's most prestigious music venues
on their recent Eastern European tour; and
WHEREAS: San Jose Youth Symphony has been the recipient of the Ambassador's Award for Cultural Diplomacy, an award that is designed to honor the most distinguished representatives of American culture whose artistry advances our Nation's goals of mutual understanding and deepening friendship; and
WHEREAS: San Jose Youth Symphony has demonstrated a commitment to the community by establishing
"Music Matters," a program that teaches instrumental music to over 100 children in after
school classes at four San Jose elementary schools:
NOW THEREFORE I, Chuck Reed, Mayor of the City of San Jose, along with Councilmember Forrest Williams, Councilmember Nancy Pyle and the entire City Council, on this 11th day of September, 2007, do hereby commend
